Luciano Berio - Gesti

Gesti (or gestures), for solo recorder, was written in 1966. It is here played by Franz Bruggen, who thought of it as another, albeit shorter, sequenza. To me, it looks like Berio employs a sort of non-simultaneity between the fingers and the airflow resulting in a kind of random walk/butterfly effect, which increasingly adds normally articulated pitches, multiphonics and humming. Personally, I find the recorder slightly more intimate and thus intriguing than the oft-played Sequenzas for ordinary instruments. Enjoy!

A hearty thanks to vgpa for making this available on the YouTubes.
